TDSAT restricts Star DEN from distributing TV18 channels

TDSAT, the telecom and broadcast tribunal of the country ruling in favor of Television18 has restricted Star Den Media from distribution of its channels. Star Den is a joint venture between Star India and distributing firm Den Networks.

A TDSAT bench headed by Justice S. B. Sinha said, “Star Den is restrained from representing itself as an agent of Television18 with effect from August 13.” Going deeper into the matter, TV18 earlier had filed this petition seeking separation from Star Den that had the duties of marketing and distribution of group’s channels.

To actualize the termination, TV18 had issued a 30 days compulsory notice to Star Den for the dismissal of agreement. This action from TV18 was taken after feeling that the other party is treating its channels in a discriminatory way. Network 18 has already formed a joint venture with South-based broadcaster Sun TV, named Sun 18, to distribute its channels.

Abhishek Manu Singhvi put forward the case in favor of TV18 group in the court.
